Eat Local,Colorado! Giving Back

The activities of the Eat Local, Colorado! Cooperative are governed by our Core Values of social justice, environmental stewardship and economic sustainability. In accordance with our Core Values we believe in giving back to our community.

Food Banks: Many producers have additional fresh food with a limited shelf life. We are working with churches and food banks to distribute the additional food to help feed the less fortunate. If you know of a food bank or church feeding the homeless or less fortunate, please contact us to get into the network.

Carbon Footprint: Concerns about global warming and peak oil abound. The Hub-and-Spoke food distribution network addresses these issues by reducing the number of shopping trips made by consumers. The consumer-members are part of a driving cooperative within Eat Local, Colorado! We are sharing the driving: Fifteen families (or more) order and one family drives.

Treading Lightly on the Earth: We want to minimize waste while maximizing efficiencies. It is the little things that add up to a big impact. For example, we are reusing plastic bottles for the ice in the coolers thus reusing the waste. In addition, the water is contained in the bottles and can be reused each week saving water and money that we would be spending on ice each week.

Help us: Any ideas you have to help us save, reuse, or help please share it with us. Contact any of the Board members with your ideas. Their contact information can be found on the "Contact Us" page.

Thanks!
